Global Postural Re-education is a method developed by French Philippe Souchard and his staff since the early 1980s. It is comprised of active and consecutive postures, working with postural muscles, dynamic muscles conservation, always in joint decompression and each time is more spread, and related to a respiratory work. The patient shall be in a laying-down position, as well as sitting or standing, to carry out such postures. These are individual sessions, with a one-hour length period.
The technique basic principles are individuality (each person is unique and demonstrates the disorders in a specific way), causality (the family history, personal history, imaging examinations etc., are checked), and entirety (patient's complaints are checked, as well as other body parts that may be related to such complaints).
The muscular potentiation had become the only alternative related to the weakness concept for some time, but actually a very rigid muscle is also considered to be weak, causing morphologic changes (body-shape and postural changes) due to chronic muscle shortening.
"RPG is a causal-call therapy, and not a palliative one."
With RPG-Souchard, we may treat:
- Hyperkiphosis, hyperlordosis, flattening, pierce and valgus knees, and other morphologic issues;
- Scoliosis;
- Protrusions and slipped discs;
- Tendonitis and bursitis;
- Cervicogenic headaches (headache with predominant cervical area);
- TMJ injuries and dysfunctions (temporomandibular joint).
